Dataminr has been ranked number 5 on the inaugural Forbes AI 50 list, a definitive ranking of the most promising private artificial intelligence (AI) companies in the U.S. The list is published by Forbes in partnership with Meritech Capital.

The Forbes editorial team recognized that AI technology is driving advancements in every industry, but it can be challenging to pinpoint which businesses are actually using such technology in transformative and measurable ways. The Forbes AI 50 identifies companies at the forefront of the field, for whom AI is at the heart of their products and services.

Ted Bailey, Founder & CEO at Dataminr said, “The entire Dataminr team is honored to be included on the very first Forbes AI 50 list and earn recognition from our industry peers. Dataminr’s advanced AI platform, combined with the exponential expansion of public data in the digital domain, has enabled us to revolutionize real-time risk detection and response. Our commercial and public sector clients are utilizing our AI platform to solve real-world problems: corporate enterprises are uncovering the earliest signs of high-impact external risks, and government organizations are accelerating emergency and humanitarian response on a global scale.”

Dataminr was founded in 2009 to create the first AI platform capable of processing streaming public datasets, detecting the earliest data patterns of global events, and delivering actionable alerts to private and public sector organizations. The public datasets Dataminr processes are massive in scale, containing billions of daily data points including text, image, video and sound. Dataminr’s AI models synthesize a combination of data science methods, applying deep learning, natural language processing, and advanced statistical modeling across disparate data sets encompassing over 150 languages and multi-dimensional formats. The company has pioneered groundbreaking technology for detecting, classifying and determining the significance of high-impact events and emerging risks from within this vast landscape of public digital data.

Dataminr’s enterprise clients span multiple industries, including financial services, technology, retail, consumer products, transportation, insurance, healthcare, energy, and media. The company’s public sector clients include first responders, global NGOs, universities, and hospitals.

Forbes received more than 350 entries for the AI 50 selection process, rigorously detailing each company’s technology, business model, customers and financials such as funding, valuation and revenue history. Meritech Capital then ranked companies based on revenue gains, profitability, employee growth, customer statistics, historical funding and valuation. Finally, top contenders were evaluated by an expert panel comprising academia and industry, including leading AI practitioners from Caltech, Facebook, IBM, Microsoft, MIT, NVIDIA, and Stanford University.
