I’m proud to share that Dataminr has attained the ISO 27701 privacy certification—a recently released privacy standard that specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a privacy information management system (PIMS).

Dataminr is one of several early adopter organizations to obtain this certification. This allows us to build and strengthen trusted customer relationships. That trust is crucial to our ability to ensure our customers—spanning the public and private sectors and newsrooms around the world—have the fastest real-time response to breaking news, emerging risks, high-impact events and crises.

The importance of ISO 27701

This new privacy standard was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), based in Geneva, Switzerland; it also develops other standards across a wide range of topics. Although new, ISO 27701 is considered an extension of the widely adopted ISO 27001, an international standard for information security.

ISO 27701 provides a common framework that organizations can use to help maintain compliance with various international privacy regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as those that are national or state specific such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). For example, the framework includes detailed mapping to GDPR requirements to further align the ISO 27701 standard to an organization’s privacy compliance needs.

Dataminr was issued the recently released new ISO 27701 certification, and a renewal for the aforementioned ISO 27001 certification, after a successful audit with Coalfire Certification. Coalfire is a well respected certification body accredited by both the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

The scope of these Dataminr certifications include our integrated management system (IMS), which supports the underlying operations of the Dataminr AI platform. These certifications are available to customers as a part of Dataminr’s compliance portfolio, which includes SOC 2 Type 2, NIST 800-171, UK Cyber Essentials Plus and more.
