October 21, 2015. Today we are excited to announce the launch of Dataminr Context, a new Dataminr for News product that will help journalists create their own curated stories showcasing the best Tweets around breaking events.
In just 12 months since the commercial launch of Dataminr for News, our alert product has spread from four beta news partners, to over 200 newsrooms in 35 countries across six continents. Today, Dataminr for News delivers nearly 1 million relevant Tweets a day into the workflows of 5000 journalists, who rely on Dataminr for detecting nascent events, breaking news and pre-viral content. Serving organizations that range from global media organizations, to digital media properties, to small local newspapers, Dataminr, a Twitter Official Partner, has established itself as the new front line of information discovery across the media landscape.
The launch of Dataminr Context is a natural evolution for Dataminr for News. While Dataminr’s alerts provide the earliest “tip” for a story, a group of Tweets often can be the most powerful way to tell a story. This new integration with Twitter will truly bring the most powerful and engaging Tweets to enhance stories even more.
Dataminr Context will deliver relevant sets of Tweets into the workflow of journalists in the minutes after a story breaks, providing on-the-ground eyewitness accounts, compelling images and videos, and official source updates. This new Dataminr product will provide journalists with a set of suggested embeddable Tweets, enabling them to seamlessly create and curate unique and compelling stories.
Dataminr Context, a signal delivered via email, will go live today for all live Dataminr for News users. Journalists will only receive relevant Tweet groups that match their pre-configured Dataminr alert watch-list settings. Journalists will also be able to seamlessly open Dataminr Context Tweet Groups directly in Tweetdeck, where they can edit/personalize/enhance the collection of Tweets prior to publishing in Twitter’s embedded Tweets on iOS, Android, and Web.
“We are excited to partner with Dataminr and leverage their sophisticated detection technology to help journalists find and organize the best Tweets to tell rich, compelling stories on their websites and applications.” – Mollie Vandor, Sr. Product Manager, Publisher Platform at Twitter
The launch of this new product marks the beginning of a significant product diversification for Dataminr for News. Next year, Dataminr will be releasing a wide variety of new products that will assist journalists in even more facets of their journalistic process. It has been a pleasure integrating more deeply with Twitter and collaborating with media organizations around the world to help journalists discover the best of Twitter and we look forward to expanding these efforts next year.
